Pelvic Floor therapy is a specialized form of physical therapy that focuses on the muscles and structures that support the pelvic organs, including the bladder, uterus, vagina, and rectum*
When should you see a PTF?
It is best to see one during and after pregnancy. However, if you missed seeing a PFT during pregnancy, it's never too late to see one postpartum. It is recommended to see one between 4-6 weeks after birth and prior to your postpartum follow-up with the provider - this way, you can share any information you receive from your PFT with your provider!
Benefits of seeing a PFT During Pregnancy
- Offers benefits for managing current discomfort, preparing for childbirth, and speeding up postpartum recovery.
- It is safe and can be beneficial at any stage of pregnancy, even for those without existing pelvic issues.
- It can help alleviate pain during pregnancy, manage incontinence, ease constipation, reduce swelling and improve sleep!
- It can also help prepare for labor and delivery - enhances pushing effectiveness, reduces the risk of tearing, teaches breathing techniques, and strengthens and coordinates pelvic muscles
Benefits of Seeing a PFT After pregnancy
- Promotes faster recovery
- Address common postpartum issues such as diastasis recti, pelvic organ prolapses, and lingering pain
- Provides a recovery blueprint for rehab!
